I love blogging. I've been sharing bits and pieces of my life since 2003 and have not gotten tired of it yet. For me, blogging is a catharsis. I'm prone to spilling my guts out in the form of words. Sometimes, I wouldn't be able to put a finger on my exact feelings until I've narrowed (or widened) it into these words. Blogging for Stomp is slightly different though. It forces your brain to focus on one topic which is sometimes difficult especially if your thought process is a bit like a disconnected train.
Ok, so where was I? Yes, blogging. Blogging puts the blogger in the public eye mercilessly. It forces a certain vulnerability because your thoughts and feelings are exposed to fans and detractors alike. Then again, it's pretty much our own prerogative as to what we blog about so in a way, the degree of vulnerability still very much depends on our own discretion. If you don't want people to pry into your love life, don't write about it. Simple. That's my stance. I think enough has been said about mine that makes me very reluctant to harp on it myself. Besides I don't think people are that interested in it anyway.
Another downside to blogging would be the fact that here in Singapore, you have to be careful about what you say which kinda goes against what blogging is all about . I don't want to use the word "censor" because that's too harsh and negative. It's more like being socially responsible, I think. And that's all about I'm gonna say about that.
The upside to blogging is the sharing of one's experiences in order for others to learn from it. "Experiences" covers everything from food, movies, cars, travel, music and people. Experiences like.....Brazilian waxes hurt slightly but they're well worth the pain. And love really is the greatest of them all. And making out to really loud rock music can be sexy. And Italy is beautiful. So is Bali, especially Ku De Ta at sunset. And money sure can't buy love. And looking down at the earth from a plane can solve problems in your life. And there's nothing like a good greasy breakfast and an expresso after a night of hard partying.
A blog is essentially a glimpse into the blogger's life. I think the upside definitely outweighs the down. The great thing about blogging is that the blogger has total control over the content. You can go on and on about a subject... or you can go on for a while and then end it when you feel like it.
